08-12-1947 VCM Special VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING August 12, 1947 A special meeting was held at the Municipal Bldg on August 12, 1947 at 10 o’clock a.m. on account of the resignation of Charles M Nelson, Village Marshall. A motion was made to accept Nelson’s resignation. Motion carried. On account of vacancy at the Municipal Liquor Store a motion was made by Johnson and seconded by Briggs to hire Evan Swanson for the position. Motion carried. A motion was made by Ellingson and seconded by Leger to close the bathing beach for the season. The motion carried and the clerk was instructed to put notice to this effect in the Star News. The Clerk was instructed to place notice in the Star News asking for applications for the position of Village Marshall, applications to be accepted up to and including Mon. Aug 18. It was agreed that the one accepted for the position must have a late model car. The clerk was also instructed to write the State Highway Department asking for more adequate stop signs and traffic regulations on the new highway through the village. The meeting was adjourned until 3 P.M. of the same day to open bids for the disposal plant. 3 P.M. All members were present. Bids for the disposal plant were opened. The following bids were received: Joseph A Bass Co – Minneapolis Harold Purtell Const Co St Paul Fred Watson Co – Minneapolis Original bids on file with Village Clerk. Upon recommendation of engineers a motion was made by Leger and seconded by Ellingson to table the bids until the next regular meeting, Sept 2, 1947. Carried.
