VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
March 18, 1948
A special meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Mar 18, 1948 for the purpose of opening
bids for the Liquor Store furnishings.
Members present:
Oscar Odegard, Mayor; Elmer Leger, Dan Bailey, R.A. Ellingson, Trustees; H.A.
Briggs, Clerk
The following bids were received:
L. Paulle Co – St Paul 2747.00
Jos F. Palen – Minneapolis 3957.00
Each price included the trading in the old fixtures and each was accompanied by a check for
$100.00. Representatives of the Paulle Co were present.
Motion by Leger and second by Ellingson he was allowed $110.00 for his car.
A motion was made by Ellingson and seconded by Leger that the Council advertise for bids for new
bar and back bar for the Municipal Liquor Store. The motion carried and the Clerk was instructed to
insert the proper advertisement in the local paper.
A motion was made by Leger and seconded by Ellingson to have Less Derr appointed Deputy
Marshall. The motion carried.
The following bills were allowed and ordered paid:
Charles M Nelson – Feb salary and car 235.00
Lester Derr – half Feb salary 112.50
H.A. Briggs – Feb salary 40.00
James Thomas – half Feb salary 92.50
James Thomas – use of car 5 ½ mo 110.00
Zella M Page – Feb salary 35.00
Zella M Page – library books 30.51
Zella M Page – janitor service 7.00
N.W. Bell Telephone Co – Feb 9.30
E.R. Utilities – Feb 213.84
Coast to Coast Store – mdse for hall 4.95
Fire Department – fires 111.00
Nickerson Bros – repair Fire truck 17.30
Nickerson Bros – gas and labor 12.05
Mrs. Walter M Johnson – mdse 2.75
First Nat’l Bank – workmen’s comp 85.66
Lester Derr – half Mar salary 112.50
Mrs. Alden Taylor – Kenniston case 25.00

A motion was made by Ellingson and seconded by Leger that the lowest bidder. L. Paulle Co, be
accepted. Motion carried.
The clerk was instructed by the Council to write Mrs. Alden Taylor that her February check of
$25.00 will be the last payment for care of Miss Kenniston until a medical examination has been
made in Miss Kenniston’s Case.
The clerk was also instructed not to issue any more warrants in the Simmons case.
A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Leger to loan the Utilities $4000.00 from the Liquor
fund.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
