VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
December 1, 1952
A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Dec 1, 1952.
Members present:
E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, R.A. Ryding, Trustees; H.A. Briggs,
Clerk
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved.
Earl Hettrick was present and mentioned certain repairs necessary at the Municipal Liquor. The
council agreed to give the matter later consideration.
Supt. R.W. Handke requested that the council do something about snow removal from sidewalks as
the school children are forced to walk in the streets where walks are not shoveled off which creates a
dangerous situation. The clerk was instructed to have a notice published in the local paper stating
that snow must be removed from walks 24 hours after a storm or the work will be done by the
village and the expense charged to the property owner.
A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Briggs to make the following appointments of
members on the Library Board:
Robert Hastings to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Harvey Lindberg. Rev. D.B. Gilbertson,
Mrs. H.J. Pfeiffer, Irene Johnson. Motion carried.
Frank Dreissig, Frank Nickerson and Vernon Hettrick asked if something could be done about
snow removal from State Highway. There was some discussion about the matter and it was decided
to ask Les Derr to find out if the Highway Department would pay for loading snow if the village
would haul it away.
