VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
January 5, 1953
A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Jan 5, 1953.
Members present:
E.A. Parent, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs,
Clerk

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Parent. The minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved.
The clerk reported the results of the recent village election:
Trustee – August Meyer
Clerk – H.A. Briggs
Constable – Oliver Micheau
Assessor – Ben Gray
Justice of the Peace – Morris Wilson
The new officers were sworn in.
Archie Larson, President of the Commercial Club, brought up the matter of parking in the down
town district. He suggested a three hour limit for parking. There was some discussion but no
definite action was taken at this meeting.
Kendall Houlton asked for a street light in the vicinity of his place and Frank Dreissig and Andrew
Horvath. The Council agreed to recommend to the Commission that a light be placed there. This
upon motion by Bailey and seconded by Dow. Motion carried.
Earl Hettrick was present. He asked that a new ice cube machine be purchased for the Municipal
Liquor Store.
The Council agreed to buy a new one and trade in the old one.
A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyers to appoint John E. McGibbon Village
Attorney. Carried.
The following standing committees were appointed:
Sewer Committee – Parent, Bailey, Meyer
Parks and Playgrounds – Briggs, Meyer
Liquor Committee – Parent, Meyer, Dow
Relief Committee – Briggs, Bailey
The bond of H.A. Briggs as village clerk was approved.
The following bills were approved and ordered paid:
Skelly Oil Co – fuel for hall 28.48
Wm Bros Boiler and Mfg Co – snow plow repairs 21.25
Elk River Ins Agency – justice bond 5.00
Central Elk Motors – gas and oil 39.57
Fire Department – fires 25.50
Farm Bureau – fuel for hall 32.34
Greupners – mittens 24.00
Oil Co of Elk River – fuel for hall 32.86
Standard Oil – fuel for hall 33.84
