7.3 PRSR 08-12-2020 The Elk River Vision A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity Request for Action To Parks and Recreation Commission Item Number 7.3 Agenda Section Action Item Meeting Date August 12, 2020 Prepared by Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director Item Description Bailey Point Nature Preserve (BPNP) Portable Toilet Reviewed by Cal Portner, City Administrator Reviewed by Action Requested Discussion regarding removing the portable toilet at BPNP Request, by action, the permanent removal of the portable toilet at BPNP Background/Discussion BPNP Steward Eric Toth and Dave Anderson recently started a work plan for the ADA portable toilet pad and access path at BPNP. They had planned to coordinate this as a community construction project. The Eagle Scout who was planning to do this project decided to take on another project in the community. Eric informed the park neighbors on the intended project and the question was asked whether the portable toilet is necessary and if it could be removed. Most of the neighbors are in favor of removing it. When BPNP had its first public meeting in 2011, the neighbors were not in favor of a potable toilet and staff supports this because the park is intended to be a nature preserve. Financial Impact The approximate savings to no longer provide a portable toilet at BPNP is $1,445 annually. Attachments  Eric Toth Email Request to Permanently Remove Portable Toilet
