Action Requested
Provide input and direction to staff for the long-term maintenance and replacement of the downtown
sidewalks.
Background/Discussion
Following this past winter, staff received several complaints regarding the condition of the downtown
sidewalk pavers. Primary concerns from both residents and businesses relate to deterioration of pavers
resulting in an uneven surface, settling of pavers resulting in trip hazards along curb lines, and general
aesthetics.
Street Division staff conducted corrections in several areas in which the pavers had settled resulting in
trip hazards in the spring of 2020; however, a more extensive repair and replacement strategy is required
to fully maintain these sidewalks.
Staff is seeking direction for the long-term vision of the downtown sidewalks to include short-term
maintenance and future replacement.
