Action Requested
Direct staff, by motion, to print and sign certain parking stalls along Main Street and Jackson Avenue for 15-
minute curbside pick-up.
Background/Discussion
On August 3, 2020, the City Council discussed downtown parking concerns related to individual businesses
placing Resewed parking signs along Main Street and Jackson Avenue. Council was not supportive of allowing
every business to sign one stall but remained open to signing a small number of stalls (4-6) throughout the
downtown district to facilitate curbside pick-up due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the conclusion of the August 3, 3030, meeting, Council asked to have this item return on September 8, 2020,
for more discussion and Council Member Wagner offered to speak with the downtown businesses about
curbside pick-up signage.
Council Member Wagner found the downtown business group were in support of a small number of reserved
parking spaces for curbside pick-up. These stalls should be identified by the City Council and, with Council's
direction, staff will sign the stalls accordingly. The attached graphic shows the suggested location for five
reserved stalls.
The parking restrictions noted on the signs will not be enforced by city staff, the police department, or
downtown businesses, but are intended to be followed honestly by the downtown public. Staff also suggests
maintaining the temporary signage until the Governor allows full occupancy of restaurants and bars.
Financial Impact
There will be a cost to print the signs. Staff will place the cost into the appropriate budget for 2020.
Mission/Policy/Goal
The proposed signage will support businesses in the downtown area.
