Members Present: Chair Williams, Commission members Anderson, Loidolt, and Soltvedt,
Members Absent: Commission member Holmgren, Niziolek, and Rathbun
Staff Present: Parks and Recreation Director Michael Hecker and Recreation
Coordinator, Tonya Love
1. Call Meeting to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the Elk River Parks and
Recreation Commission was called to order at 4:12 p.m. by Chair Williams.
2. Discuss Orono Park Plans
Mr. Hecker shared his staff report.
Members reviewed the Orono Park Master Plan and cost estimates.
Members discussed the following items:
Skate Park committee member to discuss changes due to location
Splash pad options one or two, consensus on preferring Option one
Impact of beach sand entering the splash park
Why there are sidewalks on both sides of southern parking lot
Redesign restroom and shelter designs
Augment shortfall from Park Dedication Fund
Cut lighting, prefer lighting Pickleball courts over park drive lighting
Cut shade structures
Look at cutting or doing beach node area
Look into doing an 8-foot-wide beach walk to see if that would save from doing a
10-foot-wide beach walk
Members agreed to wanting most park amenities, without park drive lighting and trail
lighting, basketball court, and scaling back on restrooms.
3. Adjournment
There being no further business, Chair Williams adjourned the meeting of the Elk River
Parks and Recreation Commission work session at 5:17 p.m.
