Further Discussion of Orono Park Plans
Background/Discussion
The Orono Park Plans were first presented to the Commission at the August regular meeting.
A special meeting was held at Lion John Weicht Park on August 27 and the Commission unanimously
agreed to proceed with the amenities shown by SRF Consulting.
The highest priorities were the skate park, splash pad, restroom building, picnic pavilion and pickleball
courts. The commission recommended removal of the basketball courts and trail lighting to match
available funding through Active Elk River.
SRF is currently preparing detailed plans which will later be reviewed by the Parks and Recreation
Commission and then City Council before they go out to bid this winter.
Financial Impact
The total cost estimates for the park amenities recommended by the Commission is nearly $3 million.
