RESOLUTION FOR THE CITY OF ELK RIVER
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING A CORP OF ENGINEERS STUDY
OF LAKE ORONO UNDER SECTION 205 FOR
SMALL FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS
WHEREAS, properties within the City of Elk River adjacent to
the Elk River have suffered damage and been seriously
threatened by flooding; and,
WHEREAS, Lake Orono has lost significant depth due to siltation
to the point where many acres are no longer navigable; and,
WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City of Elk River that the
siltation of Lake Orono has lead to the frazzled ice
conditions which have caused the flooding problems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Elk River, Minnesota:
1.
The City Council requests the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers to conduct studies to determine the
feasibility of developing a small flood control
project at Lake Orono under the authority provided by
Section 205 of the 1948 Control Act as amended.
2. It is understood that, if it is found feasible and
advisable to develop a small flood control project at
Lake Orono, the City Council would be required before
construction commences to enter into a contractual
agreement that it will provide such local cooperation
as may be prescribed by the Secretary of the Army.
3. The City Clerk of the City of Elk River shall be, and
is hereby, directed to transmit three copies of this
resolution to the District Engineer, St. Paul
District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 1421 U.S. Post
Office and Custom House, St. Paul, MN 55101-9809.
