Direct, by motion, the Elk River Police Department to seek public comment per state statute on the department’s
proposed body camera program.
Background/Discussion
The police department is in the process of implementing a bodycam program and per Minnesota State Statute
626.8473, the next step in implementing the program is to give the public a chance to express their opinion as to
the merits of such program.
Constituents should email City Administrator Cal Portner, at cportner@elkrivermn.gov by October 18, 2020. This
information will be posted on our website and on typical social media.
The police department will return to Council on October 19, 2020, with the results of the public comments along
with the department’s model policy for body-worn cameras.

The Council-approved City of Elk River mission statement includes components that include working with
