VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
August 2, 1954
A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Aug 2, 1954.
Members present:
Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved.
Mr. Bartish was present and complained about the new owner of the beer tavern owned by Wm
Schumacher. Bartish says the place is a nuisance and that beer has been sold to minors. He objected
to having a beer license issued to the new owner. No application for beer license has been filed as
nothing further was done at this meeting.
August Leider asked for a raise in wages. Decision was deferred until Lester Derr can be consulted.
Harry Dreissig, Fire Chief, was authorized to order two Indian Fire pumps for the Fire Department.
The clerk was instructed to pay Wm P. Martin of Anoka $5.00 for work on the liquor store safe.
A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Meyer to have a stop sign placed at Main and Bridge
Streets. Motion carried.
Stanley Wheaton and A.G. Jeanette of the Fred L. Gray Insurance Co. were present and there was
considerable discussion about the village insurance. Nothing was decided definitely at this meeting.
