VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
August 1, 1955
A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on Aug 1, 1955.
Members present:
Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A.
Briggs, Clerk
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved.
Manager Balow of the Municipal Liquor Store was present. There was discussion regarding signs for
the Liquor Store. A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Dow to look into the matter and
act on the recommendation of the Liquor Committee. The motion carried. All voting in favor.
Motion by Dow and seconded by Bailey to renew service agreement with National Cash Register
Co. Motion carried.
Mr. E.A. Westman, Engineer of Anoka Minn introduced himself to the council. He said he would
be available if needed.
Henry Engelke and Bernard Fiero were present. They asked for some relief for Mr. Fiero as he had
been sick and unable to work. Motion by Bailey and second by Meyer that the village furnish
groceries on weekly basis if necessary. Carried.
As Mayor Schwartz expected to be away from the Sept. meeting he appointed Dan Bailey as acting
mayor for the next meeting which will be Sept 6 as Monday Sept 5 is Labor Day.
Alfred Martin had a bill before the council for damage to his car on account of road hazard on
Nowthen Road. However, the bill was right on motion by Bailey and second by Briggs.
