VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
December 3, 1956
The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was called to order by Mayor Schwartz on
December 3, 1956 with all members present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved.
A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Dow to transfer $3500.00 from the General Fund to
the Road and Bridge Fund. Carried.
A communication was received from the Village Library Board recommending a raise of $17.50 per
month for librarian Mrs. Page. Mrs. Page to work on half day more each week. The Council agreed
to the proposal.
A motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Meyer to appoint Mrs. Ray Erdal to the Library
Board. Carried.
Upon motion by Meyer and second by Dow the Council approved an amendment to the Contract
with Engineer Fridlund to read new building instead of remodel and a fee of 6% instead of 8%.

Which have been on trial at the liquor store. He did not recommend putting them in at present.
Mr. Balow also asked for a raise for the bar tenders. The council agreed to leave it to him to do what
he thinks best.
Clarence Anderson was present. He complained about stray dogs in his neighborhood. Marshall
Micheau said he would take care of the dogs as soon as he could have a new gas chamber made.
Fire Chief Harry Dreissig, brought up the matter of Fire Department Contracts with surrounding
townships. The clerk was asked to notify clerks of Big Lake, Otsego, Elk River and Livonia
Township of a meeting to be held at the Elk River Village Hall on Mon. Feb 25. The date was later
changed to Wed Feb 27. This meeting was called to discuss the matter of fire contracts with these
townships.
Annual reports of Clerk and Treasurer were approved at this meeting. Oliver Micheau asked
permission to have a new metal gas chamber made which was granted. Micheau also filed his annual
report.
