VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING
February 27, 1957
A special meeting of the Village Council was called by Mayor Schwartz for February 27, 1957 for the
purpose of talking with adjoining townships the making of contracts with them for Fire Department
services by the Elk River Fire Department.
The following townships were represented: Elk River, Big Lake, Otsego and Livonia.
Deputy Fire Marshall Eugene Weber was present and gave a talk on the subject of rural fire
protection and suggestions on how the matter could be handled. There was considerable discussion
and questions asked by those present.
Fire Chief Harry Dressig and Mayor Schwartz explained the position of the village in regard to fire
service outside the village.
Those present were advised to take it up with their town boards and have a levy made for fire
protection. Later a contract can be made if they want protection by the Elk River Fire department.
Meeting adjourned.
