VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
February 3, 1958
The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall on February 3,
1958. Members present, Johnson, Meyer, Sandberg and Briggs.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
A.E. Balow, manager of the Liquor Store reported that he will secure bids on some painting at the
store.
A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Briggs to black list Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Rudlong at
the Village liquor store and beer taverns in the Village. Motion carried.
The Clerk was asked to write for a State plumbing and heating code.
Archie Larson representing the Village Park Board reported on the status of the new park. He
suggested certain things that should be done such as, restrooms, bath houses, softball court and
leveling of the grounds.
A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by Meyer to buy posts for outlining streets and have
Fred Brenteson do the leveling at the park. Motion carried.
Deanne Rohlf and Bryan Cornelius met with the Council. They would like to have a youth center
established at the park. The Council agreed to give it consideration.
Harry Dreissig reported on the progress of buying a fire truck. Specification will be need to be
studied further.
A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Briggs to change the name Village Marshall to Chief
of Police. Motion carried.
Upon motion by Sandberg and second by Meyer Clem Stempflug was given another month beer
and cigarette license for the Tip Top Café.
A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by Briggs to allow the following advance in salary:
Oliver Micheau $315.00 per month
Lester Derr $425.00 per month
A.E. Balow $425.00 per month
Motion carried.
At this meeting the Village Clerk and the Treasurer presented their reports for 1957. Upon motion
by Sandberg and second by Meyer the reports were approved.
Then Council decided to advertise for bids for a bath house at the new park according to
specifications.
