VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
March 3, 1958
The regular meeting of the Elk River Council was called to order by Mayor Johnson on March 3,
1958. All members were present. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
Russell Sass was present. He asked permission to put up signs for no parking between the two
driveways at the Landmark Motel for the reason that customers find no place to stope while looking
at cabins. Upon motion by Sandberg and second by Bergson the request was granted.
Mrs. Glem Striplin met with Council and asked some assistance for food. The Council agreed to
allow her $50.00 in groceries at Davis Food Market for one month.
Harry Dreissig Fire Chief was present and there was discussion regarding fire contracts with outlying
districts. Motion by Meyer and second by Sandberg to table the matter until further investigation can
be made. Carried.
The Mayor appointed members Sandberg and Briggs to meet with the Fire Chief in regard to these
contracts.
Mayor Johnson read a communication from Dean Bailey recommending yield and parking signs on
certain corners. Mayor will make some agreement with police regarding parking. The yield signs will
wait until streets are named.
Mr. Carter of Lindsey, Carter and Associates engineers were present at the meeting and there was
discussion regarding a Lagoon Type sewage disposal project. A special meeting was called for March

10 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall for further discussion of the subject.
Mr. Halverson who is looking after the remodeling of the Elk Café building was present. It has been
suggested that the Liquor Store might occupy the last half of the building and Mr. Halverson later
will present a sketch showing how this might be done.
G.C. Torgerson, engineer for Walter Butler Co. was introduced. His services are available if they
showed be needed.
Mayor Johnson reported that the Bell Telephone Co. would like space in the downtown park for a
new building. The matter was tabled indefinitely as the Council is unable to make decisions at this
time.
Oliver Micheau, Police Chief asked if the Council would be in favor of buying a police car. This
matter will be investigated.
