VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
April 7, 1958
The regular meeting of the Elk River Council was called to order by Mayor Johnson on April 7,
1958 with all members present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Contracts with neighboring towns regarding fire service were discussed. A motion was made by
Sandberg and seconded by Briggs to make the standby fee $100.00 for a whole Township and
$50.00 for any part of a township. Motion carried.
Mr. Don Nelson, Sherburne County Engineer was present. He reports that the County is improving
the Burns Road East of Elk River and asked authority to back slope Village dump property along
that road. A motion by Bergeson and second by Briggs to authorize Village to make contract with
Sherburne County to this effect. Carried.
George Dietz was granted a building permit for a new store building. Mr. Dietz would like the
Village to raise the level of the street past his building. This matter is to be referred to the County
Surveyor.
A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Bergerson to allow George Dietz an off sale beer
license. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Meyer and seconded by Bergerson to concur with the Elk River Utilities in
refusing the offer of Northern States Power Co. to purchase the local power plant. Motion carried.
Dean Sampson was present and allowed specifications for the bath house for the park.
Fire Chief, Harry Dreissig showed the Council specifications for new fire truck. A motion was made
by Sandberg and seconded by Bergerson that notice be given that Council accept bids for new fire
fighting equipment as per specifications filed with Village Clerk on April 7, 1958. Bids should be for
complete unit or alternate bid for motor and classes and equipment. Motion carried.
Upon motion by Meyer and second by Briggs the Council agreed to send two men to the fire school
at the University of Minnesota.
Mr. Halverson of Paulle Co. of St. Paul showed tentative plans for fixtures for liquor store.
The Council asked the Clerk to write Nickerson Bros. and Flaherty Bros regarding the parking of
cars on sidewalks and boulevards in the Village.
An American Legion delegation with Herbert Greupner as Spokesman attended the meeting. They
would like a limited club liquor license. A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by
Bergerson to amend ordinances No. 39 and 39A and that Council grant a club liquor license to the
American Legion for eight days during 1958, such as holidays or parties. Roll call vote resulted as
follows:
