08-04-1958 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING August 4, 1958 The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Village Hall on August 4, 1958. All members were present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Harold Novatny was present. He made an offer of $30.00 for one of the old bath houses. The council agreed to consider selling it at that price. The question of licenses for p??nographs and machines in the village was brought up and upon motion by Meyer and second by Smaberg the fees were left the same as last year. Wallie Johnson asked about the street near his place. The council will take this up with Mr. Shattuck, the zoning engineer, at the next regular meeting. Mr. Mills, engineer for Lindsey, Carter, and Associates explained the situation regarding the sewer extension in upper town. He said it is feasible from an engineering standpoint. It all depends on the cost, either to the village or to those served by the sewer. There was discussion regarding costs and sanitary matters. Mr. Mills is to contact the State Board of Health and let us know before deciding on a hearing. Donald Norris suggested that space for parking be provided back of the stores from Tierman’s to the Coast to Coast store. The mayor suggested that the Street Committee look into the matter further. Mayor Johnson read a petition for vacating one half of Quincy Street between Main Street and Mississippi River. Kendal Houlton spoke in favor of vacating. Attorney Robert Johnson against vacating. Motion by Bergeson and seconded by Meyer that the petition be tabled for the present. Motion carried. The council had already voted to raise the level of the street past George Dietz’ new store. A motion was made by Sandberg and seconded by Meyer to level and black top the street up even with the Dietz property line. The motion carried all voting in favor except Bergerson who did not vote.
