VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
March 2, 1959
The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall on March 2, 1959.
All members present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Johnson. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and approved.
Leon Thomas presented a petition regarding operations by aircraft on Lake Orono. The petition
asked that no ordinance be adopted affecting such operations. There were about seventy names on
the petition.
A petition was presented, signed by forty-nine uptown business people asking that the down town
village park be converted into a parking lot. The Council is giving this matter consideration.
A petition was filed signed by ninety-five property owners of the village saying that there are a
number of inequitable and unjust situations resulting from the present provisions of the zoning
ordinances and that the Council should make further study of the ordinance before proceeding
further.
Richard Latta filed a petition signed by nine property owners asking that lots in Blaock 6, Village of
Elk River and Lot 19 auditors subdivision No. 4 by shown as R-1, Residential instead of
Commercial.
Ermil Hoffman asked that certain lands in the vicinity of Fourth St. and the new proposed highway
169 by zoned as commercial instead of residential.
A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Bergerson to pay bills for disposal plant and
maintenance out of the special sewer fund. Carried.
Attorney MacGibbon reported on the progress of acquiring side for disposal plant.
