Discussion of changing meeting format for the Commission during the pandemic
Background/Discussion
The Parks and Recreation Commission has been meeting in a hybrid meeting mode since May after the
governor’s orders allowed for in-person meetings.
Despite the age and type of our broadcast equipment, we are able to broadcast commission meetings to
cable TV with everyone in full participation. However, visitors, staff, and commissioners in the meeting
room cannot hear the discussion from those on the Zoom portion of the meeting. The volume from the
Zoom PC needs to be turned down or it creates a feedback loop with the meeting room speakers.
With a closed City Hall, state law requires a means for the public to see/hear the meeting by either being
allowed in the Zoom meeting to watch or to have a web stream or cable access.
With public access to City Hall for an open meeting, there is no requirement to stream or broadcast the
meeting live.
Due to the challenges of hearing discussions for those in City Hall, would the Commission be interested
in foregoing the stream/broadcast to allow the Zoom audio to be audible in the Chambers to improve
the meeting flow and participation?
