VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
August 6, 1962
The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall on Aug 6, 1962
with all members present.
Supt. Parker was present at the meeting. The school board asked to have School Street lowered on
account of the school sidewalk and curb. The council agreed to lower School Street two feet and
have County do the same on Proctor Avenue.
Mr. Swanson who works with Wm Mills was present and showed tentative plans for several possible
storm sewer projects. Nothing was done at this meeting.
Dean Bailey met with the Council. He wants sewer service at the Bailey Feed Mill as he has been
assessed for the sewer for several years. It was not practical to put in the sewer for the reason that
the cost would be prohibitive. The Council will give the matter consideration.
Upon motion by Larson and second by Kemper the Council accepted a preliminary plat of
development being made by Fullerton Lumber Co.
Gene Hoffman made application for an on and off beer license at the Tip Top Café. A motion was
made by Larson and seconded by Briggs to grant license to Gene Hoffman starting Aug 10, 1962.
Motion carried.
James Wirtz was present. He complained that the sewer was not brought up to the property line at
his place which caused him extra digging. He thinks he should be recompensed for his extra work.
Council will ask engineer Mills about this.
Attorney MacGibbon reported that our liquor store is being sued for $900,000.00 along with a
number of other liquor stores.
The clerk was asked to send bills for sewer connections to St. Clair Oil Station, Galloti Bros. and
Mill-House.
Trustee Kemper presented the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Resolved that for the reason that the highway bridge over the Mississippi River at Elk River on
Highway 101 is of vital importance to business places in Elk River, farmers in the vicinity, the Elk
River School District, the Elk River Fire Department and various truckers,
The Elk River Village Council respectfully petitions the State Highway Department to put this
bridge in safe condition for not less than eight tons gross weight at the very earliest possible date.
The foregoing resolution seconded by Trustee Meyer and passed all voting in favor.
