Background/Discussion
In May, Council reduced certain liquor licensing fees due to state declarations related to the COVID-19 health
pandemic. Council amended city ordinance so that if an establishment is required to cease operations for more
than two months, the amount due for future installments shall be reduced by the number of additional months
operations ceased.
In September, the Council approved forgiving liquor licensing fees for October, November, and December. The
next liquor license installment is due November 15.
Licensees have not completely ceased operations but have been shut down to 50% capacity for indoor dining and
with winter coming, outdoor dining will soon come to an end.
Financial Impact
Revenue loss from the previous fee reductions decreased licensing revenue by $43,692.32. The additional three
months would be a loss of $18,725.28.
Mission/Policy/Goal
One of the Council's value statements is to nurture resourcefulness to leverage strengths and drive community
prosperity. Council has taken the initiative to relieve liquor licensing fees to help businesses survive during times
on economic hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and state government order limiting restaurant operations.
