Action Requested
Approve, by motion, a naming rights agreement for the City of Elk River multipurpose facility.
Background/Discussion
Following the approval of a Local Option Sales Tax referendum to the Active Elk River Project, the City Council
discussed opportunities to engage a consultant to work with local business leaders to partner in marketing the
multipurpose facility and other project amenities.
Chris Potenza of Front Burner Sports was hired to design a naming rights plan and to solicit and negotiate with
partners from the local community. A subcommittee was appointed by the Council consisting of Mayor John
Dietz, Councilmember Jennifer Wagner, City Administrator Cal Portner, Parks and Recreation Director Michael
Hecker and Facility Superintendent Tim Dalton to work with Mr. Potenza. We are excited to bring forward our
first partner whose name will brand the new community facility.
Our partner is very excited and asked to have the contract approved at the earliest date possible. City protocol is
to have agreements approved by the Council after signed by our partner. Due to some last-minute adjustments,
the signed agreement was not available when the Council packet was published. Copies will be available at the
meeting.

October 19, 2020
Mayor John Dietz, Elk River City Council Members,
We at Furniture and Things / Plants and Things are so proud to be a part of this winning community
for the past 40 years. We have incorporated our business, raised our children, grandchildren, and
now great grandchildren here in Elk River. We are so blessed to be able to give back to the
community, as well as being able to support students, athletes, and business owners in the Greater
Elk River Area.
By sponsoring this beautiful new facility that will bring individuals and families of all ages safely
together for sporting and community events, allowing athletes from all over to refine and
showcase their talents as well as allowing the community to host numerous events for the Greater
Elk River Area, creating opportunities and additional revenue for local businesses that we have
never had before.
Thank you again City of Elk River for this opportunity.
