Approve by motion, the recommendation from the Beautification Committee and recognize the award recipient.
Background/Discussion
The Beautification Committee was established in March of 2017. From May through October, the Committee
accepts nominations from the public and/or self-nominations and in November they select one finalist for the
award. The recipient will receive the award at the following EDA meeting presented by the EDA President and a
member of the Beautification Committee.
On November 9, 2020, the Committee reviewed applications and recommends Elk Plaza Dental, for their efforts to
enhance the surrounding neighborhood and community. They modernized their building exterior and added new
landscaping. They took an older building and gave it much needed pop and beautification.
Dr. Hunter, owner of Elk Plaza Dental,will accept the award.

The City Beautification Award recognizes business owners whose efforts to clean,repair,improve and enhance the
overall aesthetics of either the interior or exterior of the business,property and/or space thereby maintaining the
beauty of their neighborhood and surroundings. It is presented to encourage community improvements,enhance
our city's image and economic vitality

1. Call Meeting to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the EDA Beautification Committee
was called to order at 10:20 a.m.
2. Consider Agenda
Motion by Hardin and seconded by McCormick to approve the agenda. Motion
carried 3-0.
3.0 Consent Agenda
Motion by McCormick and seconded by Hardin to approve the consent agenda.
Motion carried 3-0.
4.1 Beautification Application Review
Ms. Eddy presented the staff report. The group discussed the Elk Plaza Dental application
and completed the judging rubric. The application received 12 points, so will be part of the
list of candidates for the winner of the Beautification Award.
Committee members discussed the policy and some ideas on what they would like to award
the winner in November. Some ideas were a plaque that would be located outside the
business to everyone would see it, a gift card from a local nursery, and chamber bucks to be
spent at an Elk River business.
5.1 Announcements
Chairperson Ackerman noted she will not be able to attend the October 12th meeting, so that
meeting has been rescheduled to October 19, 2020 at 10:00 am.
6. Adjournment
Motion by Ackerman and seconded by Hardin to adjourn the meeting at 10:50 a.m.
Motion carried 3-0.

Review the EDA City Beautification Award applications and provide a recommendation to the EDA.
Background/Discussion
The Beautification Committee seeks to recognize commercial/industrial site improvements, upgrades, landscapes,
renovations, restorations, and new structures that are architecturally noteworthy.
Two applications were received in 2020:
Plaisted Companies, Inc. remodeled their Outdoor Landscape Supply Showroom. The showroom is a
display area for homeowners and contractors to come for outdoor hardscaping product ideas.
Dr. Hunter, owner, of Elk Plaza Dental, made significant improvements to his business facade. The entire
building exterior was modernized and new landscaping was added. He has taken an older building and given
it much need pop and beautification.
