03-21-1966 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING March 21, 1966 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Elk River Village Council was held at the Village Hall on March 21, 1966 with all members present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Coles. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Leon Thomas, representing the V. F. W. asked that attention be paid regarding having the flag put up and taken down at the park. The Council will try to get the Chief of Police to look after it. Fire Chief, Dreissig says there is a tank and pump at Johnsville that can possibly by purchased for $825.00. Altogether the tank and pump would cost about $2,500.00. The Council will leave it to the Firement to decide whether to buy it. A motion was made by Hudson and second by Syring to authorize the purchase of tank and pump and suitable truck. Jack Bernard again met with the Council regarding his proposed car wash on his property. He was told that he will have to get certain permits from the State before getting started at the work. Mayor Coles was called from the meeting on account of an emergency at home and acting Mayor, Hilmer Bartelt took over. A delegation including August Meyer, Dr McNair, Cecil Thompson and Richard Breyen met with the Council regarding the drainage problem North of the tracks. Upon Motion by Syring and second by Hudson Council agreed to raise the curb on Fourth St. and Irving Ave so as to divert the water south to the ditch at the railroad track, also to contact Engineer Mills regarding drainage across Hoffman property and curb. Paul Carton will look into drainage from his property across highway at Upland Ave. A motion was made by Syring and second by Hudson to appoint Leo Wettstein assistant Liquor Store Manager at 15 cents per hour above bartender wages. Motion carried. The Clerk was asked to write several applicants for Police Officer to have an interview with them th either on March 31 or April 5. The Council requested that manager Reynolds attend the mid-month meeting of the Council each month. The Clerk was asked to write John E. Mac Gibbon to give the Council a new price for codifying the Village Ordinances. Meeting adjourned. H.A. Briggs Village Clerk
