During planning meetings for the Highway 169 Redefine project, MnDOT indicated they
would like some of the water main relocations required for the project to be done next
year, ahead of their work. Staff is working with Elfering and Associates to plan these
relocations. Most of the other water main work will be performed by MnDOTs
contactor during construction of the freeway.
We have drained the Freeport Water Tower for the winter. Throughout previous
winters, the tower was subject to roughly buildup on top of the water, which
is extremely damaging to the structure and paint. We will wash and refill the tower
sometime in the spring.
During watermain valve exercising, water operators discovered that the service valve
serving a customer on School Street is leaking. The property owners have been informed
that they are required to have the valve repaired.
Verizon Wireless has completed reinstallation of their equipment on Auburn Street
Water Tower.
Water Department staff has been working with City staff on replacing fire hydrants for
the Public Safety Building project and adjusting gates at the Lake Orono Dam to
maintain lake levels for the Lake Orono Restoration and Enhancement project.
