Background/Discussion The Parks and Recreation Commission last discussed an athletic field inventory August 12, 2020, and a use analysis of athletic fields. Staff started this process with an inventory of our city athletic fields, ISD #728 fields and athletic fields in our region. The inventory is a beginning point for a needs and use analysis that can assist in determining not only meeting current needs but preparing for future needs. The next step is for staff to review current national and local trends, current field configurations and athletic participation projections for all youth sports organization for the next five years. Information from Anoka-Hennepin School District: -They have over 40 schools which all have facilities. -Lights are only at the stadium footbll fields. -High school fields have fences for baseball and softball. -No artificial turf fields yet, but have 5 going in the Spring of 2021 and 5 more the following Spring of 2022 at the high schools. -Multiple outdoor tennis and basketball courts, no pickleball or volleyball.
