Approve,by motion, the appointment of Denny Chuba to fill the HRA Vacancy on the Joint Finance Committee. 2. Approve,by motion, the appointments of Ashley Welsh and Melissa McAlpine to the Beautification Committee. 3. Consider any new committees and committee assignments for commissioners. Background/Discussion EDA Bylaws suggest they consider appointments to all existing committees, as necessary. The appointment and/or removal of committee members are at the discretion of the EDA. In addition,it is suggested the Authority consider creation of any new committees during their annual meeting, assign the appropriate number of commissioners, and determine the assignments for any new committees. Currently, the EDA hosts three special committees,the Joint Finance Committee,the City Beautification Committee, and the Public Art Subcommittee. The Joint Finance Committee provides the EDA with a technical and politically neutral analysis of applications including microloan, tax abatement, and tax increment financing applications. They meet on the last Tuesday of the month. Other committees identified in the Bylaws include Marketing,Prospecting, and Research and Development are not established committees. The Joint Finance Committee consists of nine (9) members: two (2) EDA members,two (2) HRA members, and at large members representing various constituencies,including banking,real estate,law, and the general community. This committee encourages community improvements while enhancing our city's visual image and economic vitality. They meet monthly from April through November,generally during the morning. The Beautification Committee consists of five members,three members at large, one member representing the Sherburne County Master Gardeners Club,and one member representing the Chamber. I went to Jr. and Sr. High School here, and have lived in downtown Elk River since 2007. I’ve been passionate about fixing up and maintaining my home, yard and garden ever sense! My family and I love to go for walks through town - I’m always admiring the beautiful work of others, and thinking of ideas on how certain areas could be beautified with a little help. I would also be interested in volunteer my time for hand-on work as well, like gardening or graphic design if needed. What skills, training, and experience would you bring to the commission for which you seek appointment? I grew up helping my Dad and Grandpas in the yard, and my Mom in our home & garden. When I’m not working on our home, I’m researching new & classic ways to spruce things up. I am extremely interested in serving on the EDA Beautification Committee as I have been apart of Elk River ever since I was a child to now, raising my 2 sons here in NE Elk River. I want to make the world a better place and deeply care about the city. Elk River has a strong economic foundation - which is very important to me. I would be thankful for the opportunity to learn about dealing with others as it relates to issues of leadership, finance, and other business areas here in Elk River. My goal would be to assist the committee, engage with community volunteers to encourage and promote participation in activities focused on enhancing the beauty of Elk River. What skills, training, and experience would you bring to the commission for which you seek appointment? First and foremost, I find myself as an outgoing individual who can listen, be heard, and understand. I do well in building working partnerships with local organizations to promote, encourage and support participation. I would take those and incorporate into the beautification projects and clean-up activities to benefit our community. In my full time job, I work daily with outside suppliers, negotiating, reviewing and starting new contracts, and project management. I am able to think outside the box when it comes to ideas, volunteer opportunities and team engagement. I am an ethical employee/person and hold my self to high standards.
