DISCUSSION:
• The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA) met virtually
on January 19, 2021. Both Commissioner Mary Stewart and I were in attendance. As
presented in the mid-month memo, the Board reviewed 2020 performance and shared
a management presentation. Also of note, MMPA approved a program to install one
electric vehicle charger in each member community.
• Tom Geiser, Mike Tietz, and I attended the Virtual Minnesota Municipal Utilities
Association Technical and Operations Conference, January 26-28, 2021. There was a
great safety presentation, and two presentations related to COVID: one on maintaining
a positive mindset, and the second on lessons learned.
• I met with Greg Ridderbusch, CEO of Connexus Energy, for our quarterly visit. We
discussed our COVID challenges of 2020, upcoming projects in 2021, and the legislative
committee hearing he was testifying at with other utilities in the state regarding the
Energy Conservation Optimization (ECO) Act. The meeting was productive and provides
great value in establishing a positive working relationship with Connexus Energy.
• We had our third session on Everyday Leadership with Kent Meyers, February 3 and 4,
2021. Wednesday, February 3 was two staff sessions and a manager session in person,
and one virtual staff session was held on Thursday, February 4. This session’s topic was
extending trust.
