Water Fluoridation Quality Award

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Disease Control has recognized
Elk River for achieving excellence in community water fluoridation by maintaining a consistent
level of fluoride in the drinking water for 12 consecutive months in a calendar year. In
Minnesota, 70 fluoridating community public water systems are receiving awards for 2019.
This award recognizes the importance of maintaining optimal levels of fluoride in our drinking
water to help prevent cavities and promote good health. The CDC has named community water
st
fluoridation one of the top 10 public health achievements of the 21 century. Receiving this
award is a testament to the attention to detail the water operators demonstrate daily. It is a
continual process of observing raw water qualities and persistently monitoring chemical feed
rates.
