TO: DATE: August 8, 2005 SUBJECT: Temporary Signs Request Councillnember Ivlotin requested tllat Temporary Signs be discussed at the \vorkshop meeting. Staff has compiled information on temporary signs regarding their use, ho\v long dley are used, a\Terage length of display, how many businesses used them and what the ordinance allows. Attachments Section 30-866 Regulating Temporary Signs . 2004-Present Sign Permit List Analysis Through the year 2004 to present, 54 temporal)' signs permits have been issued widl 9 of those being repeat permits. The City of Elk Ri\Ter, dle Ice Arena and the Chamber of Commerce requested se\Ten of these permits, wInch are typically located on City properties. Currently a multi-tenant building can have only one sign on premise at a time. Ho\Ve\Ter, each business in the multi tenant building is allowed one sign for 90 days per calendar year whic11 \vould allow for a temporary sign to be on the property for more than 90 days, possibly up to a year if there were 12 tenants and each tenant had a permit for 30 days. The average lengdl of display of the temporal)' signs is one month, with a handful of permits being 2-3 months. Tile telnporary sign regulations \vere originally crafted \vith input from the business community. If the City council is interested in making cllanges, input from the Chamber may be appropriate.
