Call Meeting to Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the EDA Beautification Committee was called to order at 10:08 a.m. 2. Consider Agenda Motion by Magnussen and seconded by Hardin to approve the agenda. Motion carried 3-0. 3.0 Consent Agenda Motion by Magnussen and seconded by Hardin to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 3-0. 4.1 Review City Beautification Applications Ms. Eddy presented the two nominations. Members discussed both applications and completed the judging rubrics. Both nominees, Granite Shores and Morrell Trucking received nine points. The members voted for Granite Shores as they change their landscaping with the seasons and it is a main entry way into the downtown area. 5.1 Announcements Next meeting is September 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. 6. Background/Discussion The City Beautification Committee serves to recognize business owners, who have made an effort to clean, repair, improve, and enhance the overall aesthetics of their property to maintain the beauty of their neighborhood. This committee encourages community improvements which enhance our city’s visual image and economic vitality. Four applications were received this month: Elk River Senior Living and KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) have been nominated to receive the following award:  The business has made substantial improvements to the exterior of their buildings and/or landscape in the last year. Freeport Business Center and Morrell Trucking/Morrell Oversize have been nominated to receive the following award:  The business has consistently maintained their property in an attractive and well-kept manner. Just removing the overgrown wooded lot was an improvement. The building creates an attractive feature on a busy and visible intersection in Elk River. It is a substantial improvement on a property that had been abandoned long ago. Beautification Award Categories X The Business has made Substantial improvements to the exterior of their buildings and/or landscape in the last year. X The Business has consistently maintained their properties in an attractive and well-kept manner. 3 Application Requirements 1. Submit completed entry form plus two recent high quality digital photos, including a “before” if available and “after” (if applicable) by the first Monday of each month beginning in May through October of each year. In addition, submit a before photo, if available, from years past. 2. Deliver via email by the end of the business day on the first Monday of the month: Subject: Attention City of Elk River Beautification Committee Attach the completed and signed form and pictures to the Economic Development Specialist: ceddy@ElkRiverMN.gov 3. The Beautification Committee will meet and select a winner from each category. 4. The winners will receive an engraved plaque to display at the following EDA meeting presented by the EDA President. All of the winners will be recognized by the Mayor and City Council at their November meeting. Eligibility § Properties must be located within the corporate limits of the city of Elk River. § Projects must be visible from a public street. Self-nominations are encouraged! A photo release approval may be needed to authorize the City of Elk River to use any photos in various social media and print forums. § For new construction, a certificate of occupancy must have been issued. § Public projects are not eligible. § Projects that have won in previous two years are not eligible.
