Call Meeting to Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the EDA Beautification Committee was called to order at 10:08 a.m. 2. Consider Agenda Motion by Bakken and seconded by McCormick to approve the agenda. Motion carried 3-0. 3.0 Consent Agenda Motion by Bakken and seconded by Hardin to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 3-0. 4.1 Review City Beautification Applications Ms. Eddy presented the four nominations. Members discussed the four applications and completed the judging rubrics. In category one, KFC received 7 points and Elk River Senior Living received 10 points. In category 2 Morrell Companies received 9 points and Freeport Business Center received 13 points. Committee members recommend Elk River Senior Living and Freeport Business Center as this month’s award recipients. 5.1 Announcements Next meeting is October 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Member Hardin volunteered to represent the group at the September 17, 2018 EDA meeting. 6. Background/Discussion At their May 14, 2018 meeting, the City Beautification Committee discussed revising the beautification policy. The proposed revisions consist of having one category and one winner. The committee recognizes business owners whose efforts to clean, repair, improve and enhance the overall aesthetics of their property thereby maintaining the beauty of their neighborhood. This committee encourages community improvements which enhance our city’s visual image and economic vitality. The City Beautification Aaward serves to recognize recognizes those business owners, whose efforts have made an effort to clean, repair, improve and enhance the overall aesthetics of their property to maintainthereby maintaining the beauty of their neighborhood and surroundings. It is presented to encourage community improvements, enhance our city’s visual image and economic vitality. From May through October, one winner will be chosen each month. Business owners would receive public recognition and an award for making the city of Elk River beautiful! Businesses can be nominated for this award by others within the community or they may nominate themselves (self-nomination is encouraged!). Winning properties may be shown in promotional materials with owner’s consent. The Ccity of Elk River Beautification Committee recognizes projects that improve the appearance of local neighborhoods and the entire community. Examples are commercial/industrial site improvements, commercial/industrial upgrades, landscapes, renovations, restorations, and new structures that are architecturally noteworthy. The City of Elk River Beautification Committee seeks to recognize commercial/industrial site improvements, commercial/industrial upgrades, landscapes, renovations, restorations, and new structures that are architecturally noteworthy. A major criterion is how the project visually enhances the surrounding neighborhood and community. How the business incorporates design, maintenance, color, organization and creativity within the existing community. Improvements to structures, outdoor spaces and the landscaping are important elements for consideration. Awards are given in two categories: 1. The first category is for businesses that have made substantial improvements to the exterior of their buildings and/or landscape in the last year. 2. The second category is for businesses that consistently maintain their properties in an attractive and well-kept manner. 3 Applications will be evaluated based on the overall visual appearance of the completed project. 4 Application Requirements 1. Submit completed entry form plus two recent high quality digital photos, including a “before” if available and “after” (if applicable) by the first Monday of each month. beginning in May through October of each year.
