4.7 SR 08-16-2021 Request for Action To Item Number Mayor and City Council 4.7 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Consent August 16, 2021 Lauren Wipper, Human Resources Manager Item Description Reviewed by Hire Police Officer Ron Nierenhausen, Police Chief Reviewed by Cal Portner, City Administrator Action Requested Approve, by motion, the hiring of Jason Michaud to the position of Police Officer effective August 29, 2021. Background/Discussion The city has had two vacant police officer positions. One was vacated last October with a resignation and the other is a result of the retirement of Captain Bob Kluntz and the reassignments that followed. The first vacant position was filled with the reassignment of CSO Grace O’Konek. From the 28 applications we received and following interviews, background, physical and psychological exams, we recommend Jason Michaud for the second vacant position. Officer Michaud has been working for the Metro Transit Police Department since 2009. He was also a Firefighter/EMT for the Brooklyn Park Fire Department until 2016 and for the Albertville Fire Department until 2018. He holds an associate’s degree in law enforcement. Due to his experience and consistent with our union contract, Officer Michaud will start at step 2 of the union pay scale. Provided successful performance he will move to step 3 after 6 months. He will receive his next step increase at one year of employment. All other pay and benefits will be consistent with the union contract and city policy. Financial Impact This is a budgeted position.
