ORDINANCE 88- 3
AN ORDINANCE MODIFYING THE ORGANIZATION
OF THE ELK RIVER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
AND AMENDING SECTION 206 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES FOR THE CITY OF ELK RIVER
The City Council of the City of Elk River ordains as
follows:
1. Code of Ordinances, Section 206.00 shall be amended to
to read as follows:
206.00 Volunteer Fire Department Continued. There is
hereby continued as heretofore established in the City of
Elk River a Volunteer Fire Department consisting of a chief,
three assistant chiefs, a secretary/treasurer, and so many
fire fighters as deemed appropriate by the fire chief and
the council, provided, however, that the total membership of
the department shall not exceed thirty five (35) persons.
2. Code of Ordinances, Section 206.02 shall be amended to
read as follows:
206.02 Appointment or selection of members and officers.
The fire chief shall be appointed by the council taking into
consideration the recommendation of the members of the
department. All other officers shall be elected by the
department. Fire fighters shall be appointed by the members
of the Department in accordance with qualifications and
other requirements set forth in the Elk River Fire
Department Bylaws and this ordinance.
3. Code of Ordinances, Section 206.04 is hereby repealed.
4. Code of Ordinances, Section 206.10 shall be amended to
read as follows:

206.14 - Assistant Chief. In the absence or disability
of the Fire Chief, the functions and authority of th Fire

6. Code of Ordinances, Section 206.16 is amended to read as
follows:
206.16 - Fire Fighters. Any able bodied person 21 years of
age or older may be eligible to become a fire fighter. Each
candidate, before becoming a fire fighter, must satisfy
certain physical agility requirements and satisfactorily
pass a physical examination.
7. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon
publication as provided by law.
