Background/Discussion State law requires cities to designate polling places by December 31 of each year. This designation is required whether or not an election is scheduled. Once redistricting occurs in mid-February/early March, these designations may change again at that time. Updated: August 2020 City of Elk River City Council Resolution 21-____ A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Elk River Designating Polling Places for 2022 WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes Section 204B.16 requires cities to designate polling places for the upcoming year; and WHEREAS, the city has the ability to change a polling place mid-year for an emergency or if a polling place becomes unable for use; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River, Minnesota, as follows: the polling places listed on Exhibit A are designated as polling places for elections conducted in the city in 2021. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the city clerk is hereby authorized to designate a replacement meeting the requirements of the Minnesota Election Law for any polling place designated in this resolution that becomes unavailable for use by the city; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the city clerk is hereby authorized to designate an emergency replacement polling place meeting the requirements of Minnesota State Election Law for polling places designated in this resolution when necessary to ensure a safe and secure location for voting. st Passed and adopted this 1 day of November 2021.
