DISCUSSION:
Minnesota Municipal Power Agency’s Board of Directors meeting was held in Chaska,
MN and via videoconference on October 26, 2021. Commissioner Mary Stewart was in
attendance. The public summary of the meeting is below.
o The Board reviewed the Agency’s financial and operating performance for
September 2021.
o The Board discussed COVID-19 and its effects on supply chains, labor markets,
and inflation.
o The Board engaged in a long-term planning session.
o The Board reviewed recent commodity market data, including substantial
increases in both electricity and natural gas prices.
o The Board discussed Xcel’s request for a more than 21% electric rate increase
over the next three years. More than half of this rate increase is requested for
2022.
o MMPA had an increase of 57 customers in the Agency’s residential Clean Energy
Choice program from August to September. Customer penetration increased to
3.8%.
