I . Call Meeting to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Heritage Preservation
Commission was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chair Lindberg.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
3. Consider September 16, 2021, Agenda
Moved by Commissioner Mauren and seconded by Commissioner Fox to
approve the September 16, 2021, agenda.
Motion carried 6-0.
4. Minutes of July 15, 2021, Heritage Preservation Commission meeting
Moved by Commissioner Cole and seconded by Commissioner Mauren to
approve the July 15, 2021, meeting minutes.
Motion carried 6-0.
5.1 Elk River Documentary
Commissioner Griffiths reviewed the progress on the documentary. He has been
working with city staff to complete a variety of b -role footage that will be used in the
documentary and expects to have all the footage needed later this year.
Commissioner Griffiths also discussed the costs associated with purchasing photos
from the Sherburne County History Center to be used in the documentary. He noted
the costs are quite high and may explore other options for acquiring the necessary
photos.

The Commission discussed where the documentary would be posted and how the
video will be used going forward.
5.2 David Faribault Trading Post
The Commission discussed installation of a monument noting the location of David
Faribault's trading post in Elk River. There was discussion as to the exact location of
the post. Commissioner Mauren and Chair Lindberg reviewed their research. The
consensus of the Commission regarding the location of the trading post was the
location of the current Elk River Municipal Utilities Field Services building.
Commissioner Mauren left at 6:40
The Commission discussed construction of a statute or plaque memorializing the
location. Commission consensus was to move forward with a smaller monument
over a statute.
5.3 Additional Projects and Updates
Mr. Carlton reviewed the history of aviation article prepared by Commissioner
Mauren and asked for any feedback to be forwarded on to assist with final edits.
6. Adjournment
There being no further business, Chair Lindberg adjourned the meeting of the Elk
River Heritage Preservation Commission at 6:48 p.m.
