DISCUSSION:
• In the last 30 days, the level two charger located downtown had 8 sessions and provided
customers with 45 kWh. The DC fast charger at the Coborn's fuel station had 50 sessions
and provided 679 kWh. The charger in the ERMU/City Hall parking lot had 9 sessions and
provided customers with 141 kWh. There was a total of 67 charging sessions and 865
kWh of green energy provided over the last 30 days.
• The Enel X Juice Box EV charger recently installed in Otsego should be available for
charging by December 19. Currently there are issues with the 5G cellular
communications capabilities.
• A Minnesota Department of Commerce (DOC) work group has been meeting to discuss
the implementation of the 2021 Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act
legislation. This group is looking at the exemption of energy sales for electric vehicle
(EV) charging from the utilities' total sales, which is then used to calculate the annual
conservation improvement program energy savings goals. The exemption could be
significant since it will include identifiable energy sales to EVs through December 2032.
The DOC's goal is to provide the coordinating committee with a draft report by
December 6. The final report will then be sent to the DOC on December 8 with the
deputy commissioner's final guidance distributed by December 31, 2021.
• There are two DOC work groups evaluating other changes that will come from the ECO
Act. One is looking at how to incorporate energy efficiency fuel switching, the other is
investigating load management program changes. These two work groups are much
larger and will have far greater impact on the future of Conservation Improvement
Programs. The final guidance from the DOC deputy commissioner is scheduled to be
released by March 15, 2021.
• The promotion providing customers four free LEDs in a re-usable EV/ER shopping bag
when they sign up for The Connector newsletter, is going well in its second year. There
have been over 330 customers that have been registered to get the newsletter emailed
to them.This is a terrific opportunity for customers to save energy now with the four
LEDs, learn about saving energy monthly with the newsletter, and reduce landfill waste
by using the bag.
