HAPPY NEW YEAR!
With 2021 behind us we are looking forward to a great new year at the Senior
Activity Center! Despite not being fully open in 2021, we had a successful first
year in our new location with close to 500 members. We would like to thank
everyone for participating in and supporting senior programs. Also we would
like to thank our volunteers for all they do!
2022 MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The new year is here which means it’s time to renew your membership! All
2021 memberships expire on December 31. Inside this issue, you will find the
2022 membership form. New this year is registrants must sign the membership
form acknowledging they understand, and will abide by the policies listed in the
Handbook Policies. You will receive a copy of the handbook when you pay
for your membership. A hard copy of the handbook can be found in the
Senior Activity Center and online at MyFTCenter.com. If you choose not to
purchase an annual membership, you may purchase a day pass for $5 which
gives you access to all the amenities of the Senior Activity Center for the day
in which you purchase the pass. Your membership provides a significant
discount on our activities and events.

ENTERTAINMENT by TIM PATRICK and his
Rat Pack Music
Tim Patrick is a world-class crooner who sings the songs
of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Tony
Bennet, and many other crooners of old. He won the
Gigmasters’ 2008 Rising Star Award for Best Jazz Singer
in North America by beating out 5500 other singers.
Tim performed over 200 shows at senior facilities in

TALES and SONGS ABOUT JOY and PERILS
of LOVE
Ms. Val N. Tine, aka Storyteller Carol McCormick, will
share humorous, reminiscent, tender, and poignant
songs and stories about the joys and perils of love. Carol
has been a storyteller for over 35 years using this ancient
art form to pass on wisdom, laughter, and spark your
imagination. This will be a fun and interactive program.

POLYMER CLAY JEWELRY CLASS
In this beginner level class, you will receive step by step
instruction on how to make a piece of jewelry out of
polymer clay. You will learn the basic principles of
working with clay as well as the proper techniques that
should be used. The instructor from Rum River Art
Center will show you several different ways of
embellishing the jewelry (imprints, stripes, etc.). Dead-

MONO-PRINT LANDSCAPE CARDS
Come and learn how to create unique printed art cards.
An instructor from Rum River Art Center will teach you
how to print mono-prints, using a glass plate, ink and a
brayer. Once the ink is rolled, you will print it on paper.
You will be able to create up to 8 creative notecards to
send to friends or give as gifts. Come and spend an af-
ternoon learning a new way to create! Deadline to

Fitness
FIT and FRIENDS
This exercise class consists of a warm up, light aerobics,
balance training, weight training, stretching, and a cool
down. This class is suitable for all fitness levels and is
instructed by a trained volunteer.

Have fun and burn some calories by coming to this

FITNESS SAMPLER
Start the new year off by working on improving your
health and well being by joining us for a free fitness
sampler class! Certified Instructor, Sue Montague will
lead you through an exciting mix of 3 different class
formats including: Senior Strength and Cardio, Yoga,
and Chair Yoga. Each format will be about 20 minutes
and a chair is available for support if needed for all
sessions of this class.
After class, healthy snacks will be served and we will be
giving away door prizes. Deadline to register is

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
In partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, the
Senior Activity Center is the host site for a caregiver
support group. This informal support group is for
caregivers faced with the challenge of caring for a friend
or loved one with memory loss. Joy Oleson is the
facilitator and provides you with resources, tips, and
more. All caregivers are welcome to attend this support
group. A membership to the Senior Activity Center is
not required for this partnered program.

Did you know the Senior Activity Center has a variety
of puzzles and other games for you to enjoy?
Play a game of chess or cribbage with a friend or work
on a puzzle. Other games available include: Rummikub,
Mahjong, Boggle, Scrabble, Dominos and Uno.
TECH HELP
Do you need help learning how to use your smart
phone, tablet or other device? The Senior Activity
Center is partnering with the HOME PROGRAM to
offer you free tech support. If you would like to meet
1:1 with a technology volunteer at the Senior Activity
Center, please call 763.231.6283 to schedule an
appointment. Be sure to bring all your devices, cords,
etc. with you the day of your session.
MAKE YOUR VISIT COUNT!
Please make sure that each time you visit the Senior
Activity Center, participate in a class, trip, or special
event that you check in using your member card. All
members should have been issued a scan card when they
purchased their annual membership. Please see front
desk staff if you did not receive a card or have misplaced
it.
We keep track of daily, monthly, and yearly attendance
as those numbers are reported to the City Council and
the Multipurpose Facility Advisory Commission. Please
make sure your visit counts. It shows that the Senior
Activity Center is being used regularly.

Entertaining storyteller and historian Doug Ohman is
back again to discuss immigration to MN before the
Civil War. In this presentation you will find out what
drew immigrants to the North Star state. Doug will also
highlight the stories and history from many of the
immigrant groups that chose to make Minnesota their

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at the Old
Log Theater
Upon arrival at the Old Log Theater in Excelsior, you
will have a delicious lunch in the Old Log Dining
Room. After lunch you will move into the theater and
see this classic murder mystery that is full of mishaps
and mania. Things quickly go from bad to utterly
disastrous at Haversham Manor with an unconscious
leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors
who trip over everything (including their lines).

SCIENCE MUSEUM and OMNI THEATER
Enjoy a fun day in St Paul with seniors from Monticello.
The coach bus will bring you to Degidios Italian
Restaurant where you will be served Parmesan Crusted
Chicken Breast served over spaghetti will classic tomato
sauce and baked mozzarella. Garlic bread and a
beverage is also included with your meal. After lunch
you will arrive at the Science Museum where you can
visit the exhibits at your own pace. Choose from
permanent exhibits such as Collector’s Corner,
Dinosaurs and Fossils Gallery, Human Body Gallery,
Mississippi River Gallery, and much more! Next you will
see a show in the Omni Theater. Show titles will be
announced on their website a few weeks prior to the
trip. There will be a significant amount of walking on

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES
Share a bus with seniors from Monticello and head to
the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud to watch the
Church Basement Ladies 20th Anniversary Tour. This
musical comedy shares the story of four church ladies as
they solve the problems of rural MN church in 1965.
Prior to the 1:30 p.m. performance, you can enjoy the
lunch buffet at Coyote Moon Grille. The buffet will
include 3 hot entrees, potato, vegetable, soup, Caesar
salad, fresh popovers, dessert, and a non alcoholic

During the month of January play fitness bingo! The
rules are very simple:
Pick up a fitness bingo card at the front desk or
from your exercise leader.
Each time you complete an activity listed on the
bingo card, have the group leader/staff initial the
box for you.
Once you have bingo (5 in a row or 4 corners), turn
your card in to the front desk and your name will be
entered in a drawing to win prizes such as a gift card
or gift basket.
The drawing will be held on February 1 and the
winners will be notified shortly after.
You must be a member of the Senior Activity Center

Program
Provide one on one youth mentoring to children facing
adversity by providing a caring environment. Meet with
your “Little” three to four times a month. Matches play
board games, go bowling, attend the movies, do arts and
crafts, play sports, and enjoy fishing, among many other
opportunities. Many children are waiting for their
Mentor so join today!
Court Watch with Rivers of Hope
Attend court and bail hearings in Sherburne and/or
Wright Counties to gain information on specific
offenders to then report back to Rivers of Hope staff
via email, dropping into the building, or from a phone
call. Ability to attend court at 10:30 am in Sherburne
and/or Wright counties Monday through Friday, and
late afternoons on weekdays. Volunteers can pick
which days/sessions of court to attend.

Join us for a series of magical moonlit walks at Woodland Trails Regional
Park this winter. We'll meet up from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on the second
Monday of each month to enjoy the groomed walking trails while taking
in crisp, winter air and watching for wildlife.
Feel free to bring a flashlight for emergency use if needed. The purpose of
the walks is to enjoy the evenings in the dark, with the moonlight guiding us. Be sure to dress for the weather and
wear proper winter walking shoes or boots. Look for the group in the Woodland Trails Regional Park parking lot,
located at 20135 Elk Lake Road NW.
Free of charge. No registration required.

City of Elk River, Minnesota Waiver and Release
By enrolling in a City of Elk River sponsored recreational activity,
participants agree to adhere by the following:
1. I wish to participate in a Recreational Activity sponsored by the City of
Elk River, Minnesota (the “City”).
2. My participation in the Activity is voluntary. I acknowledge that
participating in the Activity carries with it certain inherent risks that
cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid injuries. I
know and am aware of all the dangers associated with my participation
in the activity and with such knowledge assume any and all such risks
while participating in the activity.
3. To the best of my knowledge I am physically fit and have no physical
or medical conditions that would prevent me from participating in the
activity. I acknowledge that the City recommends that prior to
participating in the activity, I should first consult with my physician
and abide by any limitations set by my physician.
4. I understand and agree that neither the City or any person acting on
behalf of the City, may be held liable in any way for any event which
occurs in connection with the activity that may result in harm, death,
injury or other damage to me. This waiver of liability does not waive
liability for any injuries that I obtain as the result of any willful, wanton
or intentional misconduct by the City or any person acting on the
behalf of the City.
5. I agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the City for any
expense or liability the City may incur as a result of my conduct,
actions, or omissions while participating in the activity.
6. It is my express intent that this Waiver and Release shall bind the
members of my family, if I am alive, and my heirs, assigns and personal
representatives if I am deceased.
Photos: We take photos and video at programs sponsored by us for
promotional use. If you do not want your photo taken, please notify us in
writing prior to the start of the program.
