Have Favor read honorable mention essay aloud to Mayor and Council. Mayor will then step down and present
Favor with a certificate of recognition.
Background/Discussion
The Mayor for a Day Essay Contest is sponsored by the League of Minnesota Cities. This was the ninth year for the
competition, and nearly 300 entries were submitted by 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from all areas of the state. A total
of three winners and four honorable mentions were chosen by judges from those entries.
Favor Ay umbu, a 61h grader from VandenBerge Middle School was recognized with an honorable mention by the
League of Minnesota Cities.
Students were asked to answer the prompt:
Cities provide a variety of services and programs that make our lives better•, including parks & rec, street maintenance, water and sewer;
