SUBJECT: Equipment Purchase
The 2005 budget includes funding to purchase a new street sweeper with equipment
certificates. In the fall of 2004, the Street Department demonstrated 5 air sweepers and 3
mechanical sweepers. At that time, we decided that a mechanical sweeper would best serve
the City's needs.
This spring we rented a Johnston sweeper from Ruffridge-J ohnson Company and an Elgin
sweeper from MacQueen Equipment Company. After renting both machines, Staff
concluded that while the Elgin is more expensive, it had superior sweeping performance
over the Johnston. These machines are available on the MNDOT state bid, so we received
the lowest bids possible and they are as follows:
Johnston MX450
Elgin Pelican SE
$ 136,517.03 includes tax
141,210.48 includes tax
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the purchase of a new Elgin Pelican SE
sweeper from MacQueen Equipment Company for $141,210.48, with equipment certificates
as the funding source.
