Elk River Library Report -Board Meeting -412612022

Planning for the Summer Reading Program is nearly final. Open to children aged 0-18, this
year's theme is "Read Beyond the Beaten Path." The program will run from June 6th -August 6th
and participation can be done online or in-person. The Friends of the Library will again be
donating books and other prizes.
Other planned programs for summer include Legacy -funded authors Lorna Landvik and Kevin
Lovegreen in May, TaikoArts and Bruce the Bug Guy in June, Magic Bob and the Mobile Sign
Shop in July, and Dazzling Dave the Yo -Yo Master in August. Storytime, Lego Power Hour,
Schooled in Art, and the Adult Book Club will all be offered over the months ahead as well.
GRRL, the City of Elk River, and the Sherburne County Parks Department have teamed up again
this summer to offer Story Strolls in four local parks. After visiting each location, participants
receive a stamp on their bookmark. Upon completing all four, they can bring their bookmark
into the library to receive a book. A big thanks to the Friends of the Library for helping fund this
effort.
The Locally Growin' fundraising campaign wrapped up at the end of March. Elk River raised
approximately $260, which was a bit less than last year's amount. The money will be used to
bring an Animal and Nature program to the library. We are grateful for everyone who donated!
Local efforts to implement the 2022-2025 GRRL Strategic Plan are underway. For example, the
plan calls for more programming in job search and workforce skills development. The library
has been partnering with the Central Minnesota Workforce Development Center to offer
workshops on resume creation, interviewing, and other strategies for effective job searching.
Finally, a new Aide joined the staff in February, and the new LSC will begin on April 26th. Elk
River staff have done a fantastic job in keeping things moving forward during the LSC transition.
Their conscientiousness and flexibility are greatly appreciated.
