Update on September 28 Storm

during the e\Tening on September 21, 2005 \vas some\vllat minor \\Then compared to some of
the suburbs to our east. This storm 11as been reported on extensiv"ely in area ne\vspapers and
on tele'vision. The lnost recent Star 1\Te1VJ pro\Tided some good inforlnation on \vhat
Ilappened and also \VIlat \vill be Ilappening as it relates to tlle city's response to tlle storm.
I l1ave requested a number of departtnent 11eads to be in attendance at dus lneeting to
prov-ide tlle Council \vitll inforlnation regarding tlle city's response to tlle storm and to
ans\ver questions. In addition to rev-ie\ving \vIlat took place, I \vould like to discuss, especially
\\dllle "ve are on cable nT, tlle debris pickup plan tllat llas been proposed and publicized. In
dus regard, PIlll Hals \vill be able to talk about the plan and estimated amount of time it \vill
take to complete tlle curbside blusl1 pickup program.
It seelns like Septelnber llas brougllt us a series of unusual and significant rain e\Tents. Eacl1
and e\Tery one of tllese ev-ents (I belie\Te tllere ha~le been three of them o'ver the last 30 days
or so) l1a've caused SOlne isolated drainage problelns but after tlle most recent storm, a
number of citizens lla\Te cOlnplained about drainage issues. City Engineer Terry IYIaurer \v-ill
be in attendance to update tile Council on some of tlle issues tllat l1e llas been asked to
revle,,\r and address.
