DISCUSSION:
Delivered 20 new water meters, sealed the meter,installed an encoder receiver
transmitter, and took curb stop ties.
Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for coliform bacteria
o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the
Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)
Completed 21 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met the MDH standards
o Submitted the MDH Fluoride Report
SubmittedDischarge Monitoring Report (DMR) for the Water Treatment Plantsto the
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).
Submitted DMRfor theDiesel Generation Plantto the MPCA.
A two-year paint warranty inspection at Auburn Street Water Tower only found a couple
minor spots that needed to be touched up. The paint coating on the tower was done
very well and should last for decades. Auburn Streetand Gary Street Water Towers have
both beenrefilled, passed water sample tests, and put back in service for the season.
On April 13 gates at the Lake Orono Dam were opened for the first time this season to
maintain the lake level. Water department staff continues to check the lake level at the
Dam and adjusts the gates accordingly every weekday.
During routinemaintenance water department staff found that the pressure filter for
Well 9 had been losing filter media during backwashing. We have replaced the 110 cubic
feet of media lost and adjusted backwash flow rates to prevent the issue from
happening again.
Verizon Wirelesshas submitted revisedplans forupgradingequipment on Johnson
Street and Gary Street Water Towers. Therevisedplans are not addingany additional
antenna equipment to the towers thus staying within terms of the current lease
agreements.

Water department staff have been working with City staff on Natures Edge Business

Park 3Addition water main extension. Approximately 2,000 feet of new water main
has been installed and will be pressure tested soon.
An agreement has been signed with MnDOT for their contractor to perform remaining
water main relocations needed for the Highway 169 Redefine project.The cost of the
work which is estimated at $824,933.25 will be paid to MnDOT prior to the water main
work starting. We had budgeted $1.2 million for this project.
We will be flushing hydrants May 9 – 13. Customers will be notifiedand a map with the
zones and thedates we’ll be flushing will be added to our website.

DISCUSSION:
We have a small portion of staff participating in trials for a cloud-based phone system.
This would provide additional features and flexibility across different hardware.
I am assisting the tech services department in determining setpoints and test
verification of a new style of molded vacuum interrupters for use on the distribution
system.
Review of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure proposals is also taking up quite a bit of
time. There is a lot of information to review and understand. The IT/OT Technician and I
are also discussing impacts with City IT Staff.
