Background/Discussion
The Cityr of Elk River Beautification Committee seeks to recognize commercial/industrial site
improvements, commercial/industrial upgrades, landscapes, renovations, restorations, and new structures
that are architecturally noteworthy. A major criterion is how the project visually enhances the surrounding
neighborhood and communityT. Ho`v the business incorporates design, maintenance, color, organization,
and creativinT `vithin the existing community. Improvements to structures, interior/exterior spaces and
the landscaping are important elements for consideration.
Three Rivers Montessori converted a bank into an elementaryT school in 2021. TheyT updated the grounds,
added a pollinator garden, and installed a large playground with native trees and plants. TheyT made
additions to the existing building and updated outdoor signage and landscape.
Salon on Main gutted and remodeled their over 100-�rear-old building in 2020. They removed three layTers
of drywall, three ceilings, and four layers of flooring. TheyT installed a new roof, headers for support,
dry�vall, flooring, plumbing, electrical, large back windo�vs, stucco on the rear of the building, and new
front and rear doors. Also, rooms `vere put in for all staff to be more covid safe. Salon on Main finished
it off with LED lights and beautiful warm paint colors. The construction started FebruaryT 2020 and was
finished b�T Kiser Construction August 2020.
T`vo applications have been received. Judging rubrics to be completed during the October meeting.

construction, a certificate of occupancy must have been issued. Public projects or previous winners

2020 our entire building was gutted out and all new re model was done. We removed 3 layers of sheet rock, 3 ceilings, 4
layers of flooring, a whole new entire roof, all new headers were put in for support, all new Sheetrock, flooring, plumbing,
electrical, rooms were put in for all staff to be more covid safe regulated, Large new back windows, all new stucco to back of
building, all new front and back doors. With finishing it off with led lights and beautiful warm paint colors. Its hard to send
before and after pictures of this project but would like to drop the photos off to review. So you are able to see it all! The
construction started February of 2020 and was finished by Kiser Construction august 2020. Our building is over 100 years old
and fresh to stand for another 100! I appreciate this opportunity to send this information in and continue to help keep our
downtown structures standing. Thank you Deana McLean.
