ACTION REQUESTED:
Adopt Resolution 22-12 Acknowledging Waste Management and Don Yurecko's 20 Years of
Service
BACKGROUND/ DISCUSSION:
In October of 2002, the commercial operation of a one -of -a -kind partnership began at the
Landfill Gas to Electric Facility located in the Elk River landfill. This initiative existed through the
collaborative efforts of Sherburne County who assisted with financing the project, Waste
Management who provided fuel and staff, Great River Energy who contracted to purchase all
the electricity produced, and ERMU who owned the facility. The goals of the project were to
highlight the concepts of reducing solid waste in landfills and generate renewable electricity
with methane gas which is a byproduct of decomposition.
On October 31, 2022, after 20 years of operation, the facility was taken off-line for final
decommissioning by Waste Management.
ERMU would like to recognize Waste Management and specifically Don Yurecko for 20 years of
exceptional dedication to the operation of the facility.
