With Council approval, I will contact the installer to have them installed on the outside of the Elk River Ice Arena by the week of November 14, 2005. Action Requested The Mayor and City Council are asked to authorize the professional installation of the pro-hockey profile banners outside the Elk River Ice Arena and authorize funding of up to $350 to come from the Ice Arena budget to pay for 50% of the banner installation. Ice Arena Commission November 1, 2005 To Mayor Klinzing and Elk River City Council members; Regarding: Pro Player Banner installation on front of the Elk River Ice Arena The Arena Commission recommends that the City Council approves the installation of three 10' x 17' banners on the front of the Elk River Ice Arena. The picture on the three banners will be Dan Hinote (plays for the Colorado Avalanche), Paul Martin (plays for the New Jersey Devils) and Joel Otto (played for several Pro teams and now resides in Calgary). These banners are to represent Elk Rivers rich hockey history. The cost to print the banners is $1425. The Elk River Youth Hockey Association paid for this cost. The banners will be hung on the front face of the Arena. After a few years, depending on how the banners weather, they will be brought inside and hung on the inside of the Ice Arena. The cost of hanging these banners will be approximately $500 to $700. There will be a sharing of this installation cost between the Elk River Ice Arena budget, Elk River Youth Hockey Association and the Elk River Blue Line. We would like to give a special thanks to Kent Madsen, a former Ice Arena Commission member, for organizing and following through on this endeavor. In a continuing effort to promote and market the rich Elk River Hockey history, there is a group of hockey enthusiast, including Kent, which will be working on getting pictures to hang in the Ice Arena. These will be of players that have had success playing at the college level and beyond. Our hope is this will help promote the sport of hockey and show the rich tradition that Elk River has had over the past 30-40 years. Sincerely, /l{;; / 4~- Dale P.
