05-05-1924 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL MAY 5, 1924 The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Library Room on Monday, May 5, 1924. Present – Roland K. Wilson, Pres, L.L. Bishop, B.E. Fournier and Geo Cornelius, Trustees and W.F. Chadbourne Clerk Meeting called to order by the Pres at 8 o’clock P.M. The following visitors were present. Fred Sachs, Co Commissioner, Eugene Chase, Co Surveyor, D.W. Longfellow, J. deBooy, Mac. Hamlet, and Helman Greupner. The minutes of the last regular and special meeting read and approved. The first matter to come before the meeting was the question of repairing Main Street from the Jefferson Highway at the junction of Depot St to Oak Streeet. Eugene Chase Co. Suveyor estimated the cost of graveling said street the width of 40 feet the entire distance said gravel to be 7 inches deep in center the cost would be $1100.00. Mr. Fred Sachs Chmn. Co Com. Offered to contribute the sum of 800.00 toward the project, provided the Village contributed the balance necessary to complete the job. After considerable discussion in regard to the manner or procedure the following motion was made by L.L. Bishop Trustee and seconded by Geo Cornelius Trustee that the offer of Mr. Fred Sachs be accepted. Motion put by the Pres. and declared carried. The manner of completing the work as to Contract or day labor was left to the Pres. and Street Com. A representative of a Slot Machine Co. asked license to install machines in the village offering to pay the Village the sum of $5.00 per month for each machine installed. After some discussion it was decided that the Council had no authority to grant such license. The Standard Oil Co. presented a copy of an Ordinance and asked the Council to act upon the same. Said Ordinance allowing the Standard Oil Co to install tanks for storage of their products to be located on a portion of Lot 6 Auditors sub division No 3 and Lot 9, Blk 7. W.H. Houltons addition to the village of Elk River. Motion made and seconded that the request of the Standard Oil Co be granted and Ordinance published. Roll called vote unanimous. Dr. R.W. Kiebel U.S. reported inspection of the following dairy herds and recommended that the owner be granted license to sell milk and cream in the Village of Elk River. C.O. Moldenhauer, Bert Carr, Guy LaPlant, C.M. Bresler, E.W. Dickey On motion report accepted and Clerk instructed to issue license to above named persons.
